SYNOPSIS
To Mary Magdalene, sinner redeemed, since the nineteenth century, were dedicated numerous convents spread mainly in England and Ireland: The “Magdalene asylums” that welcomed girls, mostly young, deemed “immoral” for committing a sinful conduct. The “daughters of Magdalene” were the daughters of sin, prejudice and injustice abandoned by the family and the State. In a climate of submission and isolation, the penitents, often held against their will, were required to work mainly as washerwomen. But there is something that binds all the disputes of the ’60s, when women oppressed by the prevalent machismo took to the streets to demand their rights, reminding the world that before being mothers, daughters, sisters, laundresses, nuns, saints and sinful, were especially humans, with their individuality and freedom.
From 16/10 to 19/10. Teatro Ambra Garbatella.
