Cinema and cultural diversity is the central theme of the conference to be held at the Teatro Palladium in Rome November 28 to 30, directed by Marco Maria Gazzano and Giorgio Devincenti and organized by the Department of Communication and Performing Arts of Roma Tre University. To reflect on the concept of cultural diversity in its multiple meanings will be scholars and artists from four continents: America, Europe, Africa, Asia. The Conference, through meetings, round tables, artistic performances, films and video installations will face the national and global dimension linked to the theme of Cultural Diversity, as an opportunity to focus on a concept that may work as paradigm of democracy and knowledge .
There will be numerous guests, from the rich inaugural roundtable that will see, among others: Achille Bonito Oliva, Luigi Cinque, Franco Farinelli, Giacomo Marramao, Marco Müller, Stefano Rodotà and Piero Sardo representing Slow Food; in the evening a panel discussion which will focus on the issues of distribution via satellite, access to broadband Internet and distribution of digital cinema with the participation of representatives of EUTELSAT and Eurovisioni.
A series of important interdisciplinary meetings of art and communication will be the focus of the festival as cultural events that will accompany the conference. These will be “bridges” between different cultures and different people, you will go from China and globalization to the spread of culture through satellite technology. And then again a focus on Africa, Latin America, over Europe and Italy.
Among the events to be reported: Monday 28 there will be the first Roman screening of the documentary Hollywood Talkies to the presence of the authors Oscar Perez and Mia de Ribot. The documentary was presented at the last Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section. Hollywood Talkies is the attempt to rescue from oblivion those who were involved in a disregarded season of Hollywood cinema linked to the advent of sound.
Tuesday, 29 will be the turn of the theater with Numa, that is Rome was not built in a day – the show of storytelling with soundscapes, by and with Sista Bramini (O Thiasos Teatro Natura) – a work on the multicultural origins of Rome with the accompaniment of Cristina Majnero and Daniele Ercoli (Ludi Scaenici).
Among the events that deserve particular mention the meetings with two members of the American cultural mosaic. Tuesday 29, the projection of visual poems made by Antonello Faretta Nine Poems in Basilicata, interpreted by New York poet John Giorno, followed on Wednesday 30 by the poetic performance of Cheyenne writer Lance Henson that will focus on Native American culture.
Always in the same day of 30 November Teatr’Arteria of Carlo Quartucci and Carla Tato presents Sueña Quijano Universitalitas. Work in progress with a view of Roma Tre. A show design in scenic body of actress between film, theater, television, art, poetry, sound, “heroes”, queens, teachers, artists, students, with Carla Tato.
To enrich the program – at the Palladium – for all three days, some of the most interesting video artists on the international scene will exhibit their works in the exhibition entitled: “Wonderful geographies and cultural differences: Video art and the re-imagination of the global village” by Marco Maria Gazzano, with works by: Adriana Amodei (Italy / Switzerland), Gianfranco Baruchello (Italy), Robert Cahen (France), Olga Lucia Gomez Hurtago (Colombia), Jorge dela Ferla(Argentina), Nam June Paik (Korea / USA), Mario Sasso (Italy), Lino Strangis (Italy), Silvia Stucky (Italy), Gianni Toti (Italy), Steina Vasulka (Iceland / USA), James Green (Italy). In collaboration with the Cultural Association KINEMA. Also is served by Teatr’Arteria Carlo Quartucci the video installation The Fable Nightingale pieces of Kounellis, Paolini, Beuys among other masters of contemporary art.
The Department of Communication and Entertainment Roma Tre from over seventeen years is a landmark in the international cultural debate. It is also active at the publishing and audiovisual production quality with films presented at major international festivals such as Cannes and Venice. Among the most important collaborations with the MACRO in Rome with whom he created the Macro Video Drink – among the most successful events Capitoline summer 2010.
Cinema and cultural diversity has had membership of the Head of State and the award of a medal from the President of the Republic and is promoted by the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region and the Rector of the University Roma Tre with the participation of Eutelsat.
