The project to a Festival of Italian Cinema based on regional characteristics inBuenos Aireswas born from the need to let the public from Argentina know the reality of Italian contemporary cinema, considering the historical and emotional ties between the two countries

THE FIRST ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL OFBUENOS AIRES.

At the start, 17 to 23 November 2011 BACI – Buenos Aires Cine Italian, the first Italian film festival in Buenos Aires with a broad program of films, short films and documentaries representing different Italian regions, in the 150th anniversary of Italy.

The Festival is sponsored by Telecom Italia and Egg Events, of Gruppo Casta Diva, in collaboration with the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts of Argentina (INCAA) and with the government of the city of Buenos Aires, and is designed by Barbara Nava of Warpy film, artistic director of the festival. The Festival is patronised by the Italian Embassy inBuenos Aires.

The inauguration will take place at the Teatro Coliseo with the film La Nostra Vita by Daniele Lucchetti, with Isabella Ragonese, guest of honour at the opening ceremony along with the Argentine director Daniel Burman. The two artists will receive recognition for their film work as a symbol of the bridge that the BACI wants to build between Italian and Argentine cinema.

There will be 12 feature films, six documentaries and seven short films screened in the Gaumont cinema during the days of the event.

This way, Buenos Aires will offer the opportunity to discover Italy and its regions through a series of works of our cinema divided into the categories “Well-known authors”, “Emergent authors “,” Documentaries”,”Short Films”. Several genres will be presented. The festival will range from comedy to the issue of immigration and that of human rights. Lots of locations and regions will be involved: Piemonte, Lombardia,Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia, Campania, Basilicata, Apulia, Calabria and Sicily.

Telecom Italia promotes a journey through Italy, bringing the excellence of our country in Argentina. An initiative wanted by the society, a world leader in telecommunications, which once again confirms its role in the promotion of important cultural activities.

During the Festival there will be meetings with directors, actors and producers presented by Italian film critic Maurizio Di Rienzo.

The occasion will also see the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy with a screening of the documentary Piazza Garibaldi, with the director of the movie Davide Ferrario.
